Paul Sturrock lines up Southend United deals

Southend United boss Paul Sturrock is confident of adding to his squad soon.

But he admits he may struggle to get any business done before Saturday's League Two clash with Chesterfield.

The former Swindon boss told BBC Essex: "A lot of the teams are holding on to their players until after the FA Cup ties on Saturday. I've got a long list.

"They have to be people who have seen it, done it and bought the T-shirt. I really need people who have played in this league or better leagues."

Sturrock has had to deal with a growing injury list at Roots Hall and is keen to bolster his options across the pitch.

"We've got several positions we want to strengthen, the depth of the squad has been a problem to us," he said.

"There's three or four injuries that seem to occur quite regularly and all of a sudden filling the void is a problem to us."

But Southend have been boosted by the news goalkeeper Glenn Morris and defender Mark Phillips are both fit for the weekend.
