Southend United have terminated the contract of midfielder Sofiene Zaaboub by mutual consent.

The 27-year-old put in a request to leave the club in order to return to Algeria and play for top flight side Entent Sportive de Setif.

He joined the Shrimpers at the start of the season following a year out of the game due to personal reasons.

However, injuries have limited him to just six starts in six months for Paul Sturrock's side since his summer move.
