Southend have signed Cardiff City defender Miguel Comminges on a free transfer until the end of the season.
The 28-year-old Guadeloupe international had been on loan at Carlisle until New Year's Eve but he featured just once.
Comminges joined Swindon in 2007 from French side Reims and made 47 appearances, before his 2008 switch to Cardiff, where he made 35 appearances.
He may face Cheltenham on Monday if his international clearance comes through.
