Southend United have signed Cardiff City forward Nathaniel Jarvis on an initial 28-day deal.
Jarvis, 18, has been on trial at Roots Hall and played for the reserve side at Stevenage earlier this week.
The Welshman was the leading scorer for Cardiff's under-18 side last season but has yet to feature for the first team.
Southend boss Paul Sturrock told BBC Essex: "His attitude to play is excellent, he's very quick and I'm very hopeful he will benefit the team."
Jarvis goes straight into the squad for tomorrow's League Two trip to Hereford United.
Southend also gave trials to former Aldershot striker John Grant and French amateurs Walid Bouslimani and Alexandre Tabillon this week.
