Southend United manager Paul Sturrock says he would like to bring in one more striker, but will not be rushed into the transfer market.
The Shrimpers gave trials to forwards Elvis Hammond and Izale McLeod in a reserve team game this week.
Sturrock told BBC Essex: "I think we need a different type of striker.
"Everyone seems to think the market dies at the end of August, there's still the loan period. I'm not going to bring in a striker for the sake of it."
The Scotsman added that he will call off the search if his current crop of forwards continue to play well.
"I'll work away with the ones I've got, they've shown some decent form since the start of the season," he said.
"They've got the place at this minute in time, I hope they perform so well that all season I won't be bringing a striker in."
