World number nine Selby is due to fly out on 29 September

Squash player Daryl Selby says he will let Team England decide if he competes at the Commonwealth Games in Dehli.

England, Scotland and Wales have cast doubt on their participation at the Games amid fears over poor facilities and safety in the Indian capital.

But the world number nine, from Shenfield, told BBC Essex: "There's people from Team England out there and they say that the preparation is fine.

"They have the best perspective, so we have to trust what they say."

The build-up to the Games, which begin on 3 October, has been blighted by problems.

Several countries have complained about the facilities in the athletes' village, with some claiming that it is "unfit for human habitation".

On Tuesday a pedestrian bridge near to the Games' main stadium collapsed, injuring at least 23 people, and on Wednesday a section of false ceiling, near to where the weightlifting will be held, caved in.

"There's been stories over the last few months about the problems they were having," said Selby.

"There are always safety concerns when you go to a place like India, but they [Team England] have put our minds at rest and have said everything looks fine from their end."

The 27-year-old added that it would be "very disappointing" for him to miss out on his first games, but would accept whatever decision is made.

"If they make the decision not to go then we'd have to trust them and believe it was the right decision," he said.

"But hopefully everything gets sorted, it becomes a smoothly run Games and everyone enjoys it for the athletic ability."

"It's going to be an honour to represent the country and hopefully I'll bring back a medal."
