Southend United look to push club's talented youth

Southend United

Southend United youth-team manager Ricky Duncan says young players will be given a chance to shine this season.

Several senior players have left Roots Hall this summer following the club's relegation to League Two.

Duncan told BBC Essex: "We set out a policy to bring our young players on, with the likes of Johnny Herd and Franck Moussa coming through."

Southend have just 10 professionals on their books at the moment after the departure of a number of players.

"A lot of Championship, League One and League Two clubs do give their youngsters more of an opportunity to push forward and it becomes a breeding ground for young players, especially here at Southend," Duncan added.
