Revell signed for Southend from Brighton in January 2008

Southend United striker Alex Revell has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken leg.

The forward, 25, was stretchered off towards the end of Tuesday night's draw at Leyton Orient in League One.

Physiotherapist John Stannard told the club's official website: "He's having more tests done, and he will be operated on on Thursday.

"The surgeon will insert a metal plate into the leg. He's looking at six months before he's fully fit."
