Jamie Cureton looks to prove a point at Shrewsbury Town

Norwich City striker Jamie Cureton
Cureton has scored 204 goals in 583 career appearances

Jamie Cureton says he is looking to prove his doubters wrong after joining Shrewsbury Town on loan from Norwich.

The 34-year-old striker has moved to the Prostar Stadium until the end of the season after being told he will not be offered a new deal at Carrow Road.

"There were a few people at Norwich who doubted me who I need to prove wrong," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"My game's all about scoring goals and having not played for a while I'm determined to get as many as possible."

Cureton joined Norwich from Colchester United in June 2007 and made 76 appearances for the Canaries, scoring 18 goals.

He has found first-team opportunities hard to come by this season, playing in just eight games.

"Jamie's a natural goal scorer, but he's found it difficult to make an impression when we have got the likes of Grant Holt, Chris Martin and Wes Hoolahan playing so well at the moment," City reserve-team manager Ian Crook told BBC Radio Norfolk.

Cureton, who was a team-mate of former Shrews striker Grant Holt at Norwich, made his first appearance in a Shrewsbury shirt on Wednesday and scored in the reserve team's 3-1 win at Burton.

"Holty told me what a good set-up it is at Shrewsbury, how he enjoyed his time here and how the manager Paul Simpson likes to play football," added the former Reading, Bristol Rovers and Swindon man.

"Dave Hibbert should also be a good foil for me. All my career I've been alongside big strikers and hopefully it'll work here too."
