Ben Davies has shrugged off competition from Shrewsbury Town's experienced new signings to keep the captain's armband.

"I've know I've brought in a number of captain-type players, but Ben does a lot on and off the pitch," said Town boss Paul Simpson.

"He is popular in the dressing room, and is a valuable link between me and the players.

"I think keeping the captaincy has given him a lift, and as long as he's in the side then he'll be our captain."

Midfielder Davies took over as Shrews captain in January under Gary Peters.
