Ben Davies - an "inspirational captain" |
Shrewsbury Town captain Ben Davies admits it is a big honour wearing the armband at Oteley Road despite his team's current poor run. "I was over the moon to be appointed," he said. "At 27, I'm one of the more experienced players, and it's good to be there for the younger lads."
Town have won just once in eight games since Davies took over captaincy duties from the departed Stewart Drummond.
But manager Gary Peters has faith in Davies to be his leader on the park.
"We've never had a captain who's really got the lads together like Ben has," Peters told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"He's keeping the place buoyant, and he's encouraging the players to show what they're really made of.
"We're working hard to turn things around, and Ben plays a big part in that."
