Ben Davies - an inspired choice as the new Shrewsbury Town captain
Ben Davies is proving a huge success in his new role as captain at Shrewsbury Town, according to manager Gary Peters.

"Ben's made a massive difference," Peters told BBC Radio Shropshire. "He's really brought the players together.

"He's supportive, enthusiastic, funny, and he's right in there with the whole of the squad. The lads would run through a brick wall for him."

Defender Luke Jones revealed that the new 'player huddle' seen on the pitch before recent games was Davies's idea.

"Ben thought it would add that extra togetherness just before kick-off" said Jones. "And it seems to be working."

Shrewsbury's form had wobbled over the turn of the year, with four straight defeats.

But they have since reignited their play-off hopes under Davies, who took over the captain's role earlier this month when Stewart Drummond was sold to Morecambe.
