Williams has found first team chances limited at Reading

Scunthorpe United have ruled out trying to re-sign their former left-back Marcus Williams in January.

The 24-year-old is out of favour at Reading having left the Iron for the Madejski Stadium last summer.

Scunthorpe are looking for a left-back but boss Ian Baraclough told BBC Radio Humberside: "Marcus's wages have probably rocketed out of our bracket.

"He left the club and wanted to seek his future elsewhere. I don't think he'd be an option for us."

Williams came up through the youth ranks at Glanford Park and went on to make 196 appearances during a seven year period before his departure in May 2010.

The Doncaster-born defender has struggled to make an impact at Reading, making just five starts and had spent time on loan at League One Peterborough in November.
