Ayala has made two Premier League starts for Liverpool.
Hull City say they are hopeful but uncertain whether they will be successful in extending the loan of Liverpool defender Daniel Ayala.
The 20-year-old Spaniard joined the Tigers on 11 September and his current deal is due to expire on 1 January.
"We're hopeful, but a lot will depend on circumstances at his own club," the City manager Nigel Pearson told BBC Radio Humberside.
"They may want him back but we'll try and do something to secure him."
Ayala has missed the last four games for the East Yorkshire club with a hamstring injury.
We would love to extend his loan
Hull manager Nigel Pearson on Daniel Ayala
Prior to picking up the injury he was a key figure in a defence that has the second best record in the Championship, having conceded only 19 goals so far this season.
The Tigers are already in the process of trying to extend the loan spells of Arsenal keeper Vito Mannone and Manchester United winger Cameron Stewart.
"Daniel has done well since he has been here and we would love to extend his loan," said Pearson.
