Rushden & Diamonds boss Edinburgh vows to spend wisely
Edinburgh had offered Lee Tomlin a new contract to remain at Nene Park
Rushden & Diamonds boss Justin Edinburgh says he will not rush to sign players to replace Lee Tomlin.
The 21-year-old winger was the Diamonds top goal-scorer last season and joined Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee earlier this month.
Edinburgh told BBC Radio Northampton: "You can't replace him, he was the best player in the league. I'm delighted for him but the downside was the timing.
"I can't resolve it immediately. I'll assess targets but I won't be hasty."
He continued: "To be honest, I thought we'd have Lee for the start of the season.
"But we've got enough good players and talent at this club and we can win without him."
It is not yet known how much of the transfer fee for Tomlin the manager will be able to spend on new players.
"Rushden has a fantastic facility and stadium, which costs a lot to maintain," he said. "And the most important thing is the longevity of the club, because it'll be there long after myself, Lee or any other player have been there."
