Shaw targets emergency loan deals

Preston chairman Shaw explained why a centre-half deal fell through

Preston chairman Derek Shaw is confident North End will be able to add to their squad when the emergency loan-market reopens next week.

The club missed out on a deal for a centre-half but Shaw maintains he is not disheartened.

"Players don't want to come just to sit on the bench," the chairman told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"An injury would give us a better chance of getting a loan player in as he would go straight into the team."

We know we haven't got the ideal situation with just two fit centre-backs

Preston chairman Derek Shaw
Shaw also revealed why a deal to bring in a centre-half collapsed.

"We were hoping that one of our higher-paid players was going to go out, which would have helped fund the move for the centre-back.

"We know we haven't got the ideal situation with just two fit centre-backs at the moment.

"But if we do have to do an emergency loan before Liam Chilvers is fit, then we will do that," the chairman added.
