Port Vale winger Lewis Haldane hopes for quick recovery
Lewis Haldane joined Port Vale on loan from Bristol Rovers in September
Port Vale winger Lewis Haldane is positive about making a quick return to action after spending two weeks in hospital with blood poisoning.
The 25-year-old was bitten by an insect during a training session and told BBC Radio Stoke: "I don't know how long it's going to be until I'm training.
"I've got to keep positive and keep doing what the doctors are telling me.
"I'm a month behind now, but I'm a fit lad so I'll work really hard to get back into the team again."
The setback came just weeks after the former Bristol Rovers youngster had agreed a two-year contract at Vale Park, following a successful loan spell last season.
Haldane initially thought he had suffered a twisted ankle, although it soon became apparent that the problem was more serious.
He continued: "I was training and thought I had just twisted my ankle so I didn't think anything of it.
"The next day I started feeling poorly and I fainted at home, so my girlfriend took me to the hospital for some blood tests.
"I didn't have the operation for about three days, they just drained the fluid out of my ankle.
"The infection was spreading up my leg and for about four or five days I was just a mess.
"Afterwards I started feeling better and the club doctor thinks the infection has probably gone, but it could take weeks or months to settle down."
Vale have refused to put a date on Haldane's return, but he has definitely been ruled out of the opening game of the season, which is away at Bury on 7 August.
