Prosser was making his second appearance of the season for Vale

Port Vale manager Micky Adams was unhappy with the decision to send off young defender Luke Prosser in the 2-1 defeat by Rotherham.

Prosser received two yellow cards from referee Peter Quinn just before half time, and moments after his goal had levelled the score at 1-1.

The Vale boss told BBC Radio Stoke: "Luke will be very disappointed.

"If you're going to get sent off for two bookable offences like he did, the game's gone, isn't it?"

Adams continued: "We have the ability, as a manager, to make reports (on the referee), but half the time, it's a waste of time.

"My report will probably be different to Ronnie Moore's.

"That's why nothing ever changes in the game because, quite clearly, there were some strange decisions out there."

Adams is now short of defensive cover ahead of Vale's FA Cup first round replay at non-league Stevenage Borough on Tuesday.

Prosser will serve a one-match suspension as a result of his red card, while Gareth Owen is also sidelined with a fractured cheekbone.

"We could really do without Tuesday's game, but it's there and we'll go and attack it," added Adams.

"We'll have 11 players out there giving their all for Port Vale, I can guarantee the fans that.

"There are options for us (in defence), and we'll have to look at that."
