Charlie Griffin earned Stevenage a second bite at the cherry as his injury-time goal secured a draw at Port Vale in their FA Cup first-round game.
A replay was the very least the Blue Square Premier side deserved after they outplayed their League Two opponents for long spells of an entertaining tie.
Adam Yates put the hosts ahead when his 30-yard effort squeezed into the net.
But Stevenage produced a storming late finale which ended with Griffin heading in Mitchell Cole's cross from close in.
Port Vale manager Micky Adams told BBC Radio Stoke:
"It was the same as last week, we got so close and then couldn't see the game through.
"At times we tried to play but you have to give credit to Stevenage they had a game plan and it seemed to work for them.
"The most important thing for us is that we're in the draw for the next round along with Stevenage and we've got another game so it's not over yet".
Stevenage striker Charile Griffin told BBC Three Counties Radio:
"The way we played going forward was fantastic and we're disappointed that we didn't win it.
"We were the better side and were disappointed to go in a goal down at the break.
"We kept going and we knew it was a winnable game but we're in the hat and we'll take them at home."
