Stoke City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen has signed a new contract with the club which will keep him at the Britannia Stadium until the summer of 2011.

The Denmark international joined the club on a free transfer from Aston Villa in 2008 after falling out of favour with manager Martin O'Neill.

The new contract extends Sorensen's original deal by a further 12 months.

The 33-year-old will win his 84th cap for Denmark when they face South Korea in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday.

Sorensen took over the reigns as his country's first choice goalkeeper when Peter Schmeichel retired and has set his sights on reaching a milestone of 100 international caps.

Sorensen explained: "That would be a great achievement in itself.

"I want to keep going for as long as I am good enough, I'm fit enough and have the desire.

"It's great that I have so much to look forward to over the coming months with both Stoke and the World Cup with Denmark."
