Port Vale defender Luke Prosser says he will fight for his place in the team, despite being on the transfer list.

The 21-year-old started his first game of the season against Cheltenham on Saturday after being recalled from his loan spell at Salisbury last month.

Prosser made 28 appearances for Vale last season and told BBC Radio stoke: "I want to be playing games.

"I'm going to keep my head down, work hard and even if I don't stay in the team I'll keep pushing for a place."

He added: "On Saturday I had an opportunity to step in with Lee [Collins] going down ill. There's only three centre-halves, if one goes down then I can be thrown in."

Prosser only signed a new 12-month deal in pre-season and despite being put on the transfer list soon after the youth team graduate hopes that has shown manager Micky Adams that he is worth keeping.

He said: "My distribution was a bit poor but I don't think I did too badly. Maybe I put my boots on the wrong feet, but overall I was quite pleased."

Adams was pleased with Prosser's contribution and said: "We threw him in with very little preparation time because of the illness to Lee Collins and for Luke to play in a system he's never played in he did very well."
