Crewe striker Anthony Elding has been told he can leave the club by interim manager Dario Gradi.
Elding, 27, was signed by ex-manager Steve Holland in July 2008 but has failed to make an impact, scoring just three goals in 33 appearances.
Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke that Elding was not part of his plans.
"I've suggested to Anthony he goes on loan or he can go," said Gradi. "I've got lots of strikers and they're all ahead of him."
Elding spent the second half of last season on loan at Lincoln City, scoring three times in 15 appearances.
