Taylor struggled for first-team football under previous manager Dean Glover
Port Vale boss Micky Adams says striker Rob Taylor can become "a frightening prospect" for League Two defenders.
Taylor, who has converted from midfield, scored his third goal of the season in the 1-1 draw at Aldershot.
"When he believes in himself, he'll be frightening," Adams told BBC Radio Stoke. "He still doesn't quite understand his role yet.
"He's got to learn when to pass it and when to be nice and positive, just as he was for his goal."
Taylor was signed from non-league Nuneaton in the summer of 2008 by former manager Lee Sinnott as a left-sided midfielder, and scored on his league debut for the Valiants at Luton.
However, following the departure of Sinnott in September, Taylor found first-team chances hard to come by, and had to wait until March before making himself a regular again in the starting line-up.
Adams has used Taylor as a second striker alongside Marc Richards for the majority of the season.
He has scored in the games against Hereford in League Two and in the Carling Cup second round victory over Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.
