Veteran midfielder Brammer was released by Port Vale in May
Former Crewe midfielder Dave Brammer is worried for the future of the club if they fail to develop any more talent through their youth system.
Byron Moore is the only player from the club's academy to start a League Two match for the Alex this season.
"It's alright if you're getting lads from top Premier League clubs," Brammer told BBC Radio Stoke.
"When you're bringing in players from Leicester and leaving your academy players out, you've got a problem."
The Crewe academy has long been recognised as one of the best in England, producing international players including David Platt, Robbie Savage, Danny Murphy and Dean Ashton.
But 34-year-old Brammer believes the days of Crewe selling players for big money could be coming to an end.
"Clubs will look at where Crewe are and think that it's going to be easier to pinch the players," he said.
"And the players themselves will see one academy player in the starting line-up and wonder what they're doing there."
Brammer, who made 102 starts for Crewe, is currently without a club after being released by Port Vale in May.
