Defender Sam Stockley has renegotiated his contract at Port Vale to improve his chances of playing first-team football for the Valiants.
His previous deal entitled him to a one-year extension if he made more than 50 appearances for the club, but that clause has now been removed.
Stockley told BBC Radio Stoke: "I wanted an opportunity of a clean slate.
"I want to stay in the team and didn't want to get to a point where financial restrictions meant I couldn't play."

The 31-year-old arrived at Vale Park in the summer of 2008 and was made club captain by then manager Lee Sinnott.
Stockley made 25 appearances for Vale last season and has been replaced as captain by midfielder Tommy Fraser.
