Lee Sinnott has named Sam Stockley as Port Vale's new first-team captain.
Vale manager Sinnott told BBC Radio Stoke: "He's been a captain before and he has been successful before. He is an organiser both on and off the pitch."
Stockley was chosen from a five-man players committee that includes John McCombe, Joe Anyon, Marc Richards and Anthony Griffith.
"They will all have a part to play," said Sinnott. "Sam Stockley is the focal point with others contributing."
Stockley wore the captain's armband at Wycombe and Colchester United and says he will be looking to lead from the front at Vale Park.
"I will be trying to to get the team to believe that we are winners," he said.
"I've seen already that we are good enough and it's my job to keep reminding them that we can succeed."
