Vale keeper Anyon to miss opener

Port Vale goalkeeper Joe Anyon will miss the start of the League Two season as he continues his recovery from the broken leg he suffered in March.

The 22-year-old was injured in a 2-1 defeat against Chesterfield.

Vale boss Micky Adams told BBC Radio Stoke: "The break is healing nicely. But other things need improving, like the strength in his quads and calves.

"His next step is to start running, and once he does that, he can move on to his goalkeeping stuff," he added.

"Joe's a positive kid and he fills me with a lot of confidence because he wants to get back as soon as he can, but we just have to make sure he's recovered fully first."

Chris Martin, 19, and Daniel Lloyd-Weston, 17, are Vale's only recognised fit keepers, prompting Adams to look for more cover in goal.

Former Crewe stopper Stuart Tomlinson has been on trial with the Valiants for a fortnight and Adams has intimated that he would like to sign the player.
