Pulis happy to play waiting game

Pulis has made just one major signing so far this summer

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis says he will not be rushed into bringing new players to the Britannia Stadium.

Sunderland midfielder Dean Whitehead is the only major signing Pulis has made during the summer to date.

"I think there's a lot of players that are waiting for a better deal to come along," he told BBC Radio Stoke.

"As you get towards the transfer deadline, more and more players become available. You've got to be patient and hope that things drop for you."

Pulis added: "I think it's important that you get the right players, and if we miss out on them for the first three or four Premier League matches because they're hanging on for things, we'll have to do that.

"I've got a reputation for leaving things right up until the last minute."

The Potters continue to be linked with a move for West Ham and England striker Dean Ashton, but Pulis has dismissed claims that a deal is close to being completed.
