Taylor scored the winning goal in the friendly victory over Wolves
Port Vale utility man Rob Taylor admits the season ahead is make or break for him in the professional game.
Taylor joined the Vale from non-league Nuneaton last season and failed to establish himself in the first team.
He told BBC Radio Stoke: "I know this season is massive for me. My career is on the line, when my chance comes along I have to take it."
The 24-year-old made 22 appearances last season for the League Two side, scoring three league goals.
Taylor scored the winner in the 2-1 victory against Wolves on Wednesday and he is now looking to push on during the rest of the pre-season build-up.
He said: "I had a frustrating time under the previous manager last season and I have to show the new gaffer I am worthy of being in his team."
The left-sided player's chances of getting his breakthrough may be more realistic as Vale boss Micky Adams admits there are unlikely to be any more signings at Vale Park this summer - despite having three players on trial.
Goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson, left-back Kris Taylor and striker Lassana Sidibe all played in the win over Wolves, but Adams concedes he is unlikely to be able to bring any of the trio in.
He told BBC Radio Stoke: "The money's spent, so we go with what we've got.
"We will see what we can do, but I am not the type of manager who makes demands of a board of directors."
