Port Vale gave new manager Micky Adams a winning start at Vale Park, as goals in either half from Doug Loft and Rob Taylor beat Wolves 2-1 on Wednesday.
The Vale boss used the game to the run the rule again over trialists Kris Taylor and Stuart Tomlinson.
Adams told BBC Radio Stoke: "Any win against the sort of opposition we played tonight is very pleasing.
"We can look at it and say there are things we can improve on, but that's what pre-season is all about."
Vale have so far signed Adam Yates from Morecambe, while Doug Loft and Tommy Frazer followed Adams to Vale Park from Brighton.
The Vale boss is trying to seek cover for keeper Joe Anyon who is recovering from a broken leg, and he has no recognised left-back on his books.
"I have spent my budget and I am not someone to demand more so I will go with what I have got," he added.
"We don't have a sugar daddy at the club and I knew the finances when I took over.
"It's up to me to get the best out of what I will be working with and at the moment although we are not the finished article we are making progress."
Vale are next in pre-season action at Stafford Rangers on Saturday.
