Taylor was signed from non-league Nuneaton Borough in May 2008
Port Vale manager Dean Glover praised Rob Taylor for making a scoring return to the first team in the 3-1 victory over Darlington on Saturday.
The former Nuneaton midfielder made his first start for Vale since scoring on the opening day of the season.
Glover told BBC Radio Stoke: "It's all about opinions, but you want to be proved wrong. Rob got his just rewards with the goal.
"He's come in today, he's had his opportunity, and he's taken it.
Taylor was signed by former manager Lee Sinnott following Vale's relegation to League Two.
And although he made an impressive start to his Port Vale career with a goal on debut in the 3-1 win at Luton, Taylor then found himself as a bit-part player in the Valiants' squad.
He has made a handful of appearances from the bench, and justified his selection in the starting line-up on Saturday with a neat finish to put Vale 2-1 ahead against Darlington.
The win was Vale's first at home since the 3-0 win over Chester in January, a game in which Taylor also scored after coming on as a second-half substitute.
Glover added: "It's a nice feeling. We've said we just need a bit of belief, confidence and endeavour, and we've got them today."
