Young striker gets Argyle chance

Plymouth Argyle

Plymouth Argyle manager Paul Sturrock will run the rule of Skelmersdale United striker George Donnelly in a reserve match on Wednesday night.

The 20-year-old, who was spotted by Argyle's scouts, has scored 11 goals in the Unibond First Division North.

Sturrock watched him against Rossendale last week and will play him in the reserve match with Bristol City.

"It's an opportunity for him to come down and show his wares," Sturrock told BBC Spotlight.

"That enables me to see him live against decent opposition," he added.

Sturrock is still looking to bring a new striker to the club after he decided against signing Austrian international Roman Kienast last week because he was not match fit.

Meanwhile Austrian Under-20 international striker Ashley Barnes has been recalled from his loan spell at Eastbourne Borough.
