Plymouth Argyle manager Paul Sturrock is hoping to sign Austria international midfielder Jurgen Saumel, according to the club's website.
The 23-year-old visited the club last week and toured the city.
"He's just one of three players, and I don't want to name the other two that we are hoping to hear back from," said Sturrock.
Samuel, who played in every Austria match at Euro 2008 Championships, has made 14 appearances for his country.
He has played more than 130 games for Sturm Graz, having come up through the youth ranks at the Austrian club.
Sturrock said earlier this week that he was in the market for more players, especially in central midfield, Saumel's preferred position.
