Tancock has been in blistering form this year |
Swimmer Liam Tancock is looking to prove himself as he prepares for two events at the Olympic Games in Beijing. Tancock competes in the 100m backstroke and the 200m individual medley and he has been training with around half of the squad at Loughborough University. The 23-year-old told BBC Radio Leicester that he was looking forward to competing in Beijing. "It's my first Olympics, and I couldn't be more excited. I've learnt a lot in my three years as a senior," he said. "I have been there a couple of times, having done the World Short Course Championship and also some World Cups. | I do remember the first time I said to my mum I'm going back home, meaning Loughborough, and she was gutted! |
"I did see the facilities last year, albeit in construction, and the experience should be exciting." Tancock moved to Loughborough four years ago and admits that it now feels like home. "I grew up in Devon but thought it was time to move on, so I got on a course at the University so I could benefit from these excellent facilities," the world 50m backstroke record holder added. "I do remember the first time I said to my mum I'm going back home, meaning Loughborough, and she was gutted!"
