Sergio Torres grateful for Peterborough United chance
Torres made his first Posh appearance of the season against Sheffield United
Peterborough United midfielder Sergio Torres says he is grateful to new manager Jim Gannon for handing him a chance to impress.
Torres, 28, made his first appearance of the season as a substitute against Sheffield United on Tuesday.
He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I was pleased to play as I've not had the best of times since coming here.
"I got injured at Lincoln, came back here and it's great to be given a chance by the new manager."
Torres was signed from Wycombe in the summer of 2008, but made just 15 league appearances as Posh won promotion from League One.
He was placed on the transfer list ahead of the current campaign and has spent time on loan at Lincoln.
And despite becoming Peterborough's forgotten man, Torres said he was grateful to the London Road faithful for the support they have given him.
Torres said: "The reaction from the crowd was unbelievable, but they've always been good to me since I've been here.
"I think they appreciate that I always work hard and it was an amazing feeling to hear them singing my name."
He has a good chance of being involved again at Watford on Saturday with both Chris Whelpdale (groin) and Lee Frecklington (calf) ruled out.
Posh look near certainties for an automatic return to the third tier of English football, but Torres says it is important they continue to give their all.
"You never lose hope until it's mathematically impossible but we have to be realistic and we haven't won many games this season," he said.
"We're on the bottom and 10 points from safety, but we'll certainly give it a good go."
Gabby Zakuani is another doubt ahead of the weekend after recently returning from a long injury lay-off.
Josh Simpson and Reuben Reid should both be available after shaking off knocks.
