Peterborough United striker Craig Mackail-Smith could be set for a loan move away from London Road.
The 26-year-old has found himself down the pecking order since the arrival of new boss Jim Gannon.
Director of football Barry Fry told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "He'll want to play football. The manager's got no problem with letting him go on loan."
Gannon recently signed Liam Dickinson from Brighton and has opted to play with only one striker in recent games.
With Mackail-Smith now the third choice forward, after Dickinson and Aaron Mclean, Gannon may have to let the former Dagenham player go out on loan.
"I've had a word with the lad and I understand his concerns but there's a lot of games coming up," said Gannon.
"If he gets frustrated we have to make a decision about whether it's in his interests, or our interests, to let him go out and play football."
Meanwhile defender Gabby Zakuani came through 60 minutes of reserve football and should be fit to travel to Swansea this weekend.
