Peterborough boss Gannon in quandary over striker roles
Gannon has managed one win from his first three games in charge
Peterborough United boss Jim Gannon has said he would prefer to start with just one striker but may use an orthodox front two for the time being.
Aaron Mclean led the line as Posh lost at Middlesbrough on Saturday with George Boyd in a supporting role.
Gannon told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "Maybe until the lads get the full idea of how we want to play then we may have to consider using two strikers.
"I think we need a couple of attacking dimensions at the moment."
Liam Dickinson has joined Posh on loan from Brighton and could come straight into the starting line-up against Ipswich on Tuesday.
Gannon says the former Stockport man will add an extra dimension to Peterborough's front-line.
"Sometimes you have to play longer balls forward and at the moment when we do that it comes back too easily," he said.
"He's not the classic type of target man but he is a physical presence and hopefully he will compliment our other attacking players."
Craig Mackail-Smith was sacrificed from the attack for Saturday's defeat at Middlesbrough and may stay on the bench for Ipswich.
"He'd got a thankless job in previous matches as he was just running around without the chance of a scoring opportunity," Gannon said.
Meanwhile, Tommy Williams has moved to Preston on loan and Gannon says it was only fair to allow him to make the move up north.
"Tom is out of contract at the end of the season, he wants to stay in the Championship next season and it's a good opportunity for him to make that happen," he said.
