Barry Fry expects George Boyd to stay at Peterborough

Peterborough director of football Barry Fry expects winger George Boyd to stay with the Championship strugglers at least until the end of the season.

Fry revealed Middlesbrough had made an approach to loan the 24-year-old former Stevenage player.

"Unless someone comes out of the woodwork, or Middlesbrough really up their bid, nothing will happen," he told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"The figures they've put to us, while substantial, are not good enough."

Boyd signed for Posh in a non-league record deal of £250,000 in January 2007 and played a vital part in back-to-back promotions from League Two and League One.

And, following his impressive displays, Peterborough's record appearance holder Tommy Robson believes Boyd should hold out for a move to the Premier League and not join the Teessiders.

Robson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I would say to George 'hold off and try and get a Premier League side straight from here if you want to go'.

"It would be a great loss for the club and especially for the supporters."

Fry also confirmed Boyd has made it clear that he will not be signing an extension to his contract at London Road.

The England C and Scotland B international has 18 months remaining on his current deal and Robson admits it will the end of an era should he choose to leave.

"This team has been built up from scratch with non-league players and has won two promotions one after another," he said.

"I think people felt if the side could stay together we could go places, but that could be about to change."
