Losing made us stronger - Martin

Peterborough United captain Russell Martin says his side's indifferent form in February has made them stronger.

Defeats to Yeovil and Southend at London Road last month briefly put the brakes on Posh's promotion challenge.

The 23-year-old said: "We were just really disappointed with ourselves. It's six dropped points that could have made a massive difference to us.

"I think it has spurred us on, perhaps it gave us a wake-up call to be at it every game."

It has been a different story in recent weeks for United who have won all of their four games in March so far.

Slip-ups from rivals MK Dons combined with Peterborough's form has seen Posh tighten their grip on the second automatic place.

Martin is confident they can make it to the finish line.

"If we carry on playing the way we have the last couple of weeks we're more than capable of doing it," he added.

"The squad are really together and even the boys who aren't playing are helping us through.

"Everyone knows that if you don't perform one game there's someone else there ready to step in."

Meanwhile boss Darren Ferguson will check on the fitness of Craig Morgan ahead of this weekend's trip to Bristol Rovers before deciding whether to include the Welshman in his back four.

Left-back Jamie Day has returned to training after sitting out the last two months with a back injury.
