Martin proud of unbeaten record

Martin joined Posh from Wycombe over the summer

Peterborough United defender Russell Martin has admitted he is delighted with the club's unbeaten run since he became captain.

The 22-year-old was a surprise choice for skipper when he took the armband from Craig Morgan after arriving at London Road in the summer.

Martin told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I'm really enjoying it and I just hope the run continues.

"It's a real honour at such a young age to be captain of such a great bunch."

The right-back first captained Posh in a 2-1 win at Milton Keynes Dons on 27 September 2008 and has steered his side through 11 League Two games without suffering a defeat.

Central defender Gabriel Zakuani has had a similar effect on the side. Peterborough have yet to lose since he was signed on loan from Fulham in early September.

Martin added: "To be honest everybody needs to be a leader on the pitch and I'm just the one who wears the armband.

"Even if we've not been playing well the effort's there. The work-rate's just unbelievable at this club, which is something I noticed when I joined in the summer."
