Former captain Hyde leaves Posh

Peterborough United have cancelled the contract of former captain Micah Hyde.

The former Watford and Burnley midfielder, 34, was put on the transfer list a month ago after falling out of favour under Darren Ferguson.

Hyde, who lost the Posh captaincy over the summer, was expected to leave prior to the 25 November loan deadline.

But, after turning down moves to Barnet, Notts County and Stevenage Borough, the former Jamaica international is now a free agent.

Hyde began his career at Cambridge in 1993 before being signed by Graham Taylor at Watford for 250,000 in the summer of 1997.

He spent seven seasons at Vicarage Road, helping the Horns to promotion via the play-offs in 1999.

But he was allowed to move on by Ray Lewington in the summer of 2004, becoming one of Steve Cotterill's first signings at Burnley.

He was then signed in January 2007 by then Posh boss Keith Alexander, who lost his job four days later.

He was a fixture under new boss Ferguson for the rest of the 2007/08 campaign and skippered United to automatic promotion from League Two in May.

But he has hardly figured this season, having started just five games for a Posh team who have risen to fifth in League One.
