Zakuani urging Lewis fan support

Peterborough United defender Gabby Zakuani has urged Posh supporters to encourage goalkeeper Joe Lewis, despite a number of recent errors.

Lewis, 21, was heckled by sections of the home support during Saturday's defeat by Yeovil at London Road.

Zakuani told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "Everyone has got to get off Joe's back and let him get on with it.

"People are entitled to say what they like, they pay for the tickets, but it's a time to pull together."

Lewis cost his side any chance of three points in Saturday's defeat after diverting a weak shot from Shaun MacDonald into his own net midway through the second half.

Leeds, Oldham, Hartlepool and Carlisle have all benefited from errors made by the England under-21 international so far this season.

Nevertheless, boss Darren Ferguson has handed Lewis his backing and Zakuani says the whole Posh squad are fully behind their under-fire shot-stopper.

"He knows he could have done better at the weekend, but at the same time that he's a top keeper and hopefully he'll get through it," Zakuani said.

"Everyone's behind him, we're keeping together and nobody will be getting down on him because he has saved us a lot of points this season."

Lewis put in one of his best performances of the season against Tranmere in the second round of the FA Cup.
