Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson has named defender Craig Morgan as his captain for the season.
The 23-year-old takes over the role from the experienced Micah Hyde, who becomes club captain.
Morgan has been a near ever-present for Peterborough since joining from the MK Dons in 2006 and he is also a regular in the Wales squad.
Morgan told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "It's a step forward in my career, I'm very proud to be asked to do the job."
Morgan is known as one of the most vocal players in the Posh squad, but admits he did not expect to be named captain.
"It was a little bit of a surprise with some of the other senior members in the squad," he said.
"But I had a long chat with the gaffer about it and he decided he wanted me to do it so obviously I obliged."
Hyde, 33, becomes club captain as Ferguson can no longer guarantee the former Watford and Cambridge United man his place in the side.
Morgan, though, will be one of the first names on the team sheet and is keen to prove himself in his new role.
"I'm still only 23 so it's a big thing for me, but the gaffer's put faith in me so hopefully I'll repay him."
