Oxford beat Thame at the opening of the new ASM Stadium

Oxford United

Oxford United beat Thame United 3-1 in a game to mark the official opening of Thame's ASM Stadium on Tuesday.

The match, which was originally scheduled for December but fell victim to the cold snap, was played in front of 1,382 people at the new £3m complex.

Matt Green fired the U's ahead in the 18th minute before Thame levelled with a long-range strike from Alex Stewart.

Midway through the second half, Sam Deering made it 2-1, before Conor McDonagh's header sealed the victory.

The result didn't matter, it was just nice to play against Oxford as they have some really good players.

Thame United manager Mark West

Thame boss Mark West told BBC Oxford: "The result didn't matter, it was just nice to play against Oxford as they have some really good players.

"They brought their first team and it attracted over 1,300 people, which was great because it will be the only time our players get to play in front of a crowd like that," he said.

The U's play Northampton on Saturday, having won their last three league games to sit ninth in League Two, while Thame, who have also won their last three matches, face Pegasus Juniors in the Hellenic Premier Division.
