Oxford defender Mark Creighton says he is surprised at the speed of his recovery from a toe injury.
The 29-year-old is set to play for the reserves on Wednesday, two weeks after fracturing and dislocating his toe.
Creighton, who initially thought he would be out for a month, told BBC Oxford: "I've had two or three sessions with the ball and it seems OK.
"Obviously there is still a bit of pain but nothing that will stop me playing. Now is the time to test it in a game."
The former Kidderminster centre-back picked up the injury in a League Two game at Cheltenham on 28 September at Whaddon Road.
"It was fortunate as to which toe it was," Creighton added.
"It is my middle toe so I don't really do that much with it compared to my big toe.
"I think that's the reason it has been slightly quicker."
Fellow Oxford defender Rhys Day is also expected to continue his comeback from a knee problem in the reserve fixture at Colchester on Wednesday.
