Magilton tips Oxford for success

Former Manor Ground favourite Jim Magilton is tipping Oxford United for success ahead of the friendly against his Queens Park Rangers side.

The Northern Irishman took over the manager's job at Loftus Road in June, and says he has been impressed by the job done by U's boss Chris Wilder.

"They have the right sort of people at the club," Magilton told BBC Oxford.

"In the manager they have a young ambitious manager like myself. He's desperate to do well."

He added: "It is important to get out of that league and then start building, and then ensure the foundations that set in now are the foundations that take them forward."

Magilton joined Oxford United in 1990 after starting his career as an apprentice at Liverpool. The former midfielder says he was saddened to see his old club relegated to the Conference in 2006.

"I was devastated, completely devastated. It broke my heart to be honest with you," he said.

Oxford United take on QPR at the Kassam Stadium on 24 July at 1945 BST.
