Oxford cruise to Morton victory

Oxford United secured a 3-0 win over Scottish First Division side Morton in their latest pre-season friendly.

After a goalless first half the U's took the lead immediately after the break through Jack Midson.

Substitute Sam Deering was rewarded for his perseverance, netting on the hour mark after two attempts were blocked by the Morton keeper.

The victory was made safe thanks to a clinical finish from James Constable after a through ball from Adam Murray.

"I'm delighted with the performance and attitude from everybody", manager Chris Wilder told BBC Oxford.

"It was a collective effort, and everybody has played a part."

United gave former Mansfield and Aldershot centre-back Rhys Day a trial game at the heart of the defence.
