Patterson received criticism from Oxford's fans on the Histon terraces
Under-pressure Oxford United manager Darren Patterson admits his side are in a Blue Square Premier relegation fight.
The U's are 17th, three points off the drop zone, following Saturday's 5-2 loss at Histon, which led for calls for Patterson to be sacked.
"We are in a relegation battle. Teams below us are picking up points, we're not," said Patterson.
"Obviously our goals are higher than that but we have to starting winning football matches quickly."
Patterson had ambitions of promotion before the start of the campaign but believes it is unrealistic to be looking at the play-offs in their current run of form.
"There is no point in kidding ourselves that we are looking at the play-offs or promotion when we are at the wrong end of the table."
