Roberto Mancini's agent Maurizio De Giorgis has denied his client has had talks about taking over as manager of League Two club Notts County.

Ian McParland left his role as boss on Monday and reports suggested director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson was in talks with Mancini, 44.

"There has been no contact," De Giorgis told the Nottingham Evening Post.

"He might have spoken to Sven since he joined Notts County but that is not unusual because they are good friends."

McParland's number two Dave Kevan and youth team boss Michael Johnson will take caretaker charge of team affairs for Saturday's league match against Rotherham.

But reports suggested Mancini, who finished his playing career with a brief spell at Leicester City and played under Eriksson when the Swede was in charge of Sampdoria and Lazio, could succeed them in the coming weeks.

But De Giorgis insisted: "There is no truth in it whatsoever, with all the respect for Notts County and their project.

"Maybe people have put together Roberto and Notts County because he is good friends with Sven. But you have to remember Roberto has managed Inter Milan."

The Italian is currently out of work having left Inter last year after winning three league titles, two Coppa Italias and two Supercoppa Italianas - a record that made him the most successful Inter coach of the last 30 years.

Mancini has also managed Lazio and Fiorentina, following a successful playing career with Sampdoria, Lazio and Italy.

However, he is not the only manager being linked with the vacant position at Meadow Lane, with former England midfielder David Platt the initial bookmakers' favourite for the post, while the likes of Steve Coppell, Peter Taylor and Alan Curbishley - all experienced managers currently out of work - have also been touted as candidates.

County currently sit fifth in League Two, but have ambitions to reach the Premier League following the club's takeover by Middle East consortium Munto Finance in July 2009 - although the ownership structure at Meadow Lane is still being investigated by the Football League.
