Leicester land Mancini
Roberto Mancini
Roberto Mancini has agreed Leicester deal
Leicester City have signed former Italian international striker Roberto Mancini on a short-term deal.

It is unclear at this stage whether the Lazio player has signed on a month's loan or until the end of the current campaign, but the details will be revealed when he is paraded at Filbert Street.

But the man who was Sven Goran Eriksson's number two at Lazio will definitely become a Foxes player.

A club spokesman said: "There are a few details to be finalised but Mancini will be unveiled at a news conference."

Mancini was recommended to Leicester manager Peter Taylor by Eriksson during their recent meeting in Rome.

Impressive

Taylor is aware that City need a new striker of experience to supplement Ade Akinbiyi, Trevor Benjamin and Richard Cresswell who are still all learning their trade in the Premiership - and Mancini fits the bill.

Taylor confirmed: "We will definitely be taking Roberto for a month and see how things go from there, but he has already made a good impression with me.

"He fitted in well with training on Wednesday and is already very knowledgeable about a lot of our players.

"After training, he took away a few videos of our games to get to know even more about how we play."

Taylor added: "Of course, Roberto knows that he is 36 and that I am looking for his football knowledge, not his legs.

"There will be enough young legs around him to do the running so that should be all right.

"He also understands that his role will be to help bring on the younger players and pass on experience to the strikers.

"I am optimistic that this move could work out very well and he will definitely be in the 16 for Saturday's match with Arsenal."

Mancini, who was initially tipped to replace Eriksson as coach at Lazio, won 36 caps for his country and played for Bologna before spending 15 years with Sampdoria and then joining Lazio in 1997.
